Highfield Gospel Hall

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We are a group of Christians from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds, life experiences, and of all ages who are united in a common interest in following Christ. (in fact, that is the original meaning of Christian -- Christ followers)

We meet regularly to worship, discuss the meaning of scripture and how it applies to us, to pray, and to preach the gospel.

All services are very simple in form. We try to follow the practices of the believers in the first century - just as they did in Bible times.

TRUTH + SIMPLICITY + FAITH + LOVE + JOY + OBEDIENCE + HOSPITALITY + HONESTY

About us

A part of the Ashbridges, Beach, and Leslieville Communities since 1917

good news

The word Gospel is derived from an Anglo-Saxon word that meant "the story concerning God". It was used to translate the Bible word for "good news." It refers to God's offer of forgiveness for sins and reconciliation with Him.

WorShip

Much more than praise; broadly it may be regarded as the direct acknowledgement to God of His nature, attributes, ways and claims, whether by the outgoing of the heart in praise and thanksgiving or in deed or action.

BEGINNINGS

  • 1917 - A Sunday school was started in the Bobrick home just north of Queen St. Weeks later it moved to a rented hall on Rhodes Ave. Rent was $10 per month. Attendance grows so large that Roden and Duke of Connaught public schools close for the day to allow students to attend the annual picnic.
  • 1931 - A group of Christian believers starts to meet as an assembly that follows simple New Testament practices.
  • 1934 - The Highfield Gospel Hall is built at the corner of Highfield Rd. and Applegrove (now called Dundas St) This property was originally part of the Ashbridge farm.

Truth

The very essence of God. The state of true reality. The Lord Jesus Christ declared: "I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father except through Me."

  • We believe the Bible to be the inspired, infallible, complete, and ultimately the only authoritative word of God.
  • We believe there is one God, eternally existing as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  • We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is deity, that He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life among us, was crucified and suffered judgment for sin that all might be reconciled to God, that He died and was buried, was bodily resurrected and ascended into Heaven, and that He will come again in power and glory.
  • We believe that all are born sinners and those that acknowledge their guilt can be saved by grace through faith alone in the risen Lord, apart from their works. Through this personal faith, we receive the righteousness of Christ and the forgiveness of sins.
  • We believe that every person who has made this confession of faith is to be publicly baptised by immersion in water.
  • We believe that the Holy Spirit, who indwells every believer, enables each to live a Godly life of obedience as he or she reaches for spiritual maturity.
  • We believe the Holy Spirit unites all true believers in the Lord Jesus Christ and that together they form one body.
  • We believe in the Great Commission to witness to all people of all nations. The Great Commission includes declaring the gospel, teaching discipleship, and baptism of new believers. (Matthew 28:19-20)
  • We believe that every believer is a priest and should function within the framework of a local Bible-believing assembly.
